The National Hockey League has been forced to postpone tonight’s game between the visiting Chicago Blackhawks and the Sabres in Buffalo. According to insider Chris Johnston, the game has been postponed to Thursday nights schedule due to local travel restrictions in Buffalo due to a massive snowstorm.

The game was expected to be presented on TNT, and therefore the network will broadcast the contest between the Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers, per John Shannon.

The Sabres still held a full morning skate in KeyBank Center on Wednesday in advance of the game and had plans to keep players nearby, staying in hotels to be close to the arena.

Prior to the announcement that the game is indeed postponed, Sabres head coach Don Granato commented on the situation, still focused on the upcoming contest.

“It feels like one of those days you’re waiting for the league and city officials to make a decision. Our job is to be ready for tonight’s game until otherwise notified by the league and the city,” Granato said. “… We’re going to go about our business best we can without being distracted, but I can tell you it is a completely different feeling than a normal game day.”

The game will be held at 7PM ET on Thursday with the hopes that the driving ban and travel restrictions will be lifted that morning.

More to come on this developing story.
