The Edmonton Oilers have confirmed the news.

On Sunday, news began to leak out suggesting that veteran National Hockey League forward Corey Perry was closing in on a deal with the Edmonton Oilers and those rumors have now been confirmed.

In an official announcement on Monday morning, the Oilers revealed that Perry had agreed to a new deal at the league's minimum salary ($775,000) that will be prorated for the remainder of the season, a deal that will also contain some performance bonuses. The Oilers have not shared any specific details regarding those bonuses although I will bring you that information as soon as it becomes available.

Update: Details on all 3 of Perry's performance bonuses can be found here.

Perry is coming off of a controversial tenure as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks, one that ended with his contract being terminated by the Blackhawks after an incident involving a team employee. Perry was not suspended by the NHL for that infraction and as a result has been an unrestricted free agent ever since.

Perry was free to sign with any team that he was interested in and reportedly received interest from multiple teams around the NHL before eventually choosing to sign with the Oilers.

One has to wonder if the Oilers current 13 game winning streak played a factor in Perry's decision.
