There is an odd man out in Edmonton.

For the first time all season long the Edmonton Oilers are starting to get relatively healthy, and unfortunately for the organization that means that they have some tough decisions ahead of them when it comes to their roster.

We've already seen the byproduct of some of those decisions on Sunday when the Oilers made the move to place 2 players on waivers, with one of those players being waived for the purpose of contract termination.

That however may have only been the beginning of those tough decisions with reports now indicating that the Oilers may be on the verge of making a trade. National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman recently shared his thoughts on the situation and confirmed that the Oilers are suddenly facing a roster crunch.

"All of a sudden they are about to get healthy," began Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. "And not only that but people... say that Isaac Howard and Quinn Hutson have been extremely good. Sooner or later they are going to want to give one or both, probably both, another shot in the NHL. So we're going to be in a situation with some extra bodies."

Friedman also pointed to one man in particular as the odd man out in Edmonton.

"I understand that one of the names that could possibly be affected by this is going to be Andrew Mangiapane," revealed Friedman. "Mangiapane started the season in a bigger role and lately he has struggled to find both ice time and consistency."

Mangiapane does have a full no trade clause which could complicate matters, but it sounds like both sides of this are willing to move on from one another according to the insider.

"I think there is an understanding there that if the Oilers can find something for Mangiapane with another team where he might have a bigger role, he would be willing to waive in that situation," revealed Friedman.

Friedman stopped shy of suggesting that Mangiapane has demanded a trade, but it does sound like the forward and the Oilers are headed for a divorce sooner rather than later.
