You might have looked at the television at one point on Tuesday night and the Toronto Maple Leafs were leading 5-1 over the Florida Panthers. And you took that for granted.
You took for granted that rookie goalie Erik Kallgren had it under control. But then, he let in two more goals and ended the second period injured.
He appeared woozy when he was hit straight in the mask by a slap shot, just moments after making another stop with his upper body on an aggressive shot.
When he was hit in the mask, Kallgren needed to stop and trainers got to him. He made his way to the dressing room and Jack Campbell, you got the victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning last night came in.
And things got worse as the Panthers made a comeback, 6-5, in the third period. John Tavares then tied things up to push this insane contest in overtime.
This is what happened to Kallgren, though he did return to the team’s bench at some point in the third period.
Fans started panicking wondering if Kallgren could be seriously injured and forced to miss time.
The postseason is fast approaching and while Campbell is back, Petr Mrazek is not an option for the Leafs, who might be forced to trust Michael Hutchinson for the playoffs…
I can hear Maple Leafs fans cringe… Let’s see what is said about Kallgren tomorrow…
In the end of this crazy game, the Panthers completed the comeback. Jonathan Huberdeau scored in overtime to give the Cats an impressive 7-6 win. What a game!
