Petry throws his coach under the bus after another brutal loss

There’s no structure out there,” complains the veteran defenseman

Surprise, surprise, the Montreal Canadiens fell flat on their face again this evening.

The Canadiens lost 5-2 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pittsburgh tonight to drop to a season record of 6-21-3. Oof...

May I remind you that this is a team that went to the Stanley Cup Final last season?

Whatever the reason, it's clear that things are broken in Montreal. To me, they look like a team that's severely lacking in leadership. Shea Weber is all but retired, Carey Price is unlikely to play by the New Year, Philip Danault split the moment free agency opened and Corey Perry played the "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" game by signing with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Who's left to help guide this ship? As much as I love guys like Brendan Gallagher and Jeff Petry, you need a stronger leadership group than that in today's NHL.

Oh... and a half capable head coach would help too.

Sophomore coach Dominque Ducharme has looked absolutely outmatched this season, much like he did in last season's Cup Final. And tonight, Petry called out his coach for not preparing his time properly. Check out Petry's pointed post-game comments after this evening's brutal loss:

“It’s the same things, over and over. We’re not playing as a team, we’re not playing as a group. It’s like you’re searching to find where people are. It seems like there’s no structure out there.”

- Jeff Petry

That's a pretty bold statement from a guy who doesn't usually make headlines. And because anything that a player says is front page news in Montreal, it'll be interesting to see the consequences of Petry's words. It's going to be an interesting back half of the season in La Belle Province.
