A great gesture from both men.

Here is just one more example, among many, of a hockey player being one of the most down to earth professional athletes on the planet.

This time around we go to Los Angeles Kings forward Phillip Danault, who had a very amusing interaction with a fan prior to the start of Saturday night's game between the aforementioned Kings and the Winnipeg Jets. Danault, who is Canadian, was skating around the ice when one of the fans in attendance in Winnipeg just happened to catch his eye. The fan was wearing a military uniform that would have marked him out as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Now I can't be sure what it was that got Danault's attention, but it may have been the small handheld sign that the fan held up after Danault skated over to have a chat with him. Now getting the chance to shoot the breeze with a player in the National Hockey League while you're in the crowd would be cool enough, but these two guys went a step further.

We can't tell you the specifics of the conversation that the two men had through the glass, but it seems fairly obvious that there was some kind of negotiation going on. The soldier could be seen pointing at the puck and was gesturing at himself in a strange manner as well, but it all became clear when the two men made their exchange.

First, a puck that Danault was holding in his hand was tossed by the Kings forward up and over the glass where the soldier deftly caught it, but after that it was his turn to throw something over the glass. I'm not sure what the rules surrounding this rather unusual set of circumstances are, but it was clear that Danault was happy to receive what he got in return, something I believe was a military patch of some kind.

It was a classy gesture from both of the guys, and Danault even took it a step further. Danault posed with the patch placed over his heart on his jersey, as other fans in the crowd snapped photos of the two men.
