Quebec town under fire after making fun of Carey Price's substance abuse issues

A real scumbag move.

In case you missed the news yesterday, Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price released a public statement indicating that he did indeed undergo treatment for substance abuse and mental health issues.

Here's the full statement that he published to his Instagram account:

Price, of course, had been on a personal leave of absence from the Canadiens and, until yesterday, fans had no definitive reason as to why. We now know that Price had been suffering from substance abuse and he needed help kicking whatever it was that he had become addicted to. There's certainly no shame in that and Price should be commended for stepping up and getting the help that he needed. It takes a real scumbag to make light of someone's addiction issues. Which leads us to the absolute scumbags in charge of social media in Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel municipality of Quebec.

The municipality issued a boil water advisory for the community and for some stupid reason they decided to take a shot at Price in their social media post to the public.

Obviously, the post was issued in French, but I'll do dust off my high-school French enough to do it justice for our anglo-only readers out there.

Here's the post in question:

So, in effect, the municipality acknowledges the advisory and then it pokes fun at Price saying, “We are as eager as you are to lift the notice. Like Carey Price, as soon as our substance problem is resolved, we will notify you.”

Oh, and the word bubble above Price's head in the image reads: "Also seemed to me that there were substances in the water."

I mean... how stupid can you be? Who in their right mind thought this was a good idea?

Obviously the post was taken almost immediately, but the damage had been done as dozens of individuals ripped into the municipality in the post's comments. The issued a half-hearted apology shortly after stating:

"We never wanted to make fun of those who have a problem with consumption, let alone those who are trying to get out of this situation."

“We have used humor a number of times in our publications in the past, with some success. It has even become our trademark. We believed, wrongly, that people would take the message at face value, with lightness. As they are used to it."

I sincerely hope that someone gets canned over this idiotic decision.
