Another three-team blockbuster on the horizon!
The New York Rangers would be foolish to pass up the opportunity to acquire Patrick Kane ahead of the trade deadline especially with how the Chicago Blackhawks star forward has been playing lately. Kane has tallied seven goals in the past four outings, basically shoving it to anyone who has questioned his game and his nagging hip.
While the Rangers landed Vladimir Tarasenko earlier this month, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reports that NY is doing everything it can to complete a trade to bring Kane on board.
Last night, it was announced that Vitali Kravtsov and Jake Leschyshyn were out of the lineup for the game against the Detroit Red Wings for “roster management reasons”. However, Mercogliano explains that waiving or trading both players will not give the Rangers enough cap room to acquire Kane, and will need the help on a third team getting in the mix to complete the transaction.
We’ve see a few three-team trades taking place this month as the Minnesota Wild landed a hand to both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins. A week ago, the Wild retained some salary to get Ryan O’Reilly to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and in return, received a 2025 fourth-round pick. Just yesterday, in a trade that sent defenseman Dmitry Orlov and forward Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins, the Wild retained 25 percent of Orlov’s salary after the Washington Capitals retained 50 percent in the first move of the deal. Exactly the same numbers as the O’Reilly trade. Minnesota got a 2023 fifth-round pick in return.
Frank Seravalli recently reported how the Montreal Canadiens and Vancouver Canucks have informed teams that they have recently told GMs they are willing to act as third-party brokers, just like the Arizona Coyotes, Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks are open to do.
The Rangers might give them a call first and see what it might cost to get one in the mix for a Kane monster trade.
What is working for now in New York is that the Blackhawks’ asking price for Kane might have come down since the top forward has made it clear he wants to play for the Rangers after March 3rd.
Let’s see how this blockbuster shapes up!
