Red Wings may have lost two of their top forwards to injury.
The Detroit Red Wings may be dealing with more injuries than they initially let on.
On Sunday, the Red Wings made the move to call up 27 year old veteran forward John Leonard on an emergency basis, a move that would suggest the team is dealing with two injured forwards and not just one.
On Saturday the Red Wings made their first emergency call up of the weekend when they added 20 year old rookie forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygard to the roster, a move that was made in response to the injury to Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin. Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan confirmed on Saturday that Larkin would be out for at least one game, but gave no indication that the Red Wings had another injured forward.
What we do know for certain however is that Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond was absent from the team's skate on Saturday, with McLellan at the time stating that Raymond was merely taking a maintenance day.
The Red Wings were already facing an uphill battle against the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night with Larkin out of the lineup, but an injury to Raymond on top of that would be a huge blow to their offense.
Raymond is in the midst of another very strong season with 20 goals and 45 assists for a total of 65 points in just 61 games this season. The hope is of course that his momentum will not be derailed by an injury, if he is indeed injured.
Only time will tell if Raymond is available for the Red Wings tonight against the Devils.
