Report: Blackhawks' lawyers say they have “very different views” from Kyle Beach's representatives

I get that some lawyers are scumbags, but c'mon...

When former Chicago Blackhawks first round pick Kyle Beach revealed to the world last month that he was sexually assaulted by former Blackhawks video coach Brad Aldrich, the hockey world rallied around him to show support. But all of that moral support may amount to a hill of beans if the Blackhawks' lawyers get their way.

TSN's Rick Westhead reports that settlement talks between Beach's lawyers and the Blackhawks' lawyers aren't exactly going swimmingly as the Blackhawks' lawyers says that they have "very different views" on what constitutes a fair settlement.

From Westhead on Twitter this evening:

A lawyer for the Chicago Blackhawks today wrote to Kyle Beach’s attorney to say the team is refusing to make a settlement offer because the sides have “very different views” on what would constitute a fair resolution of this lawsuit…”
The NHL team wants to retain a mediator.

n a 2nd letter re "John Doe 2," the Blackhawks' attorney wrote that while the team will provide therapy for him, the team wants to review his “medical records, school transcripts, and income records” before it can understand how the assault by Brad Aldrich has impacted his life.

While a Blackhawks' lawyer wrote the NHL team would pay for therapy for JD2 related to the assault, “it should not be construed as an admission of fault or responsibility for JD2’s injuries."
"The Blackhawks sympathize with [JD2] on a human level ..." the team's lawyer wrote.

Seriously... what kind of ghouls are these lawyers?

I get that corporate defense lawyer isn't the most noble of professions, but are these guys even human?

You heard what Beach had to say. You heard what "John Doe 2's" mother had to say. And now you want to go digging through medical records and personal history before you step up and do the right thing? What a heinous way to conduct business. In the hockey world when you do something wrong, you stand in there and you take your lumps. You might not like it, but you can always take a number and park your emotions for another day. It absolutely disgusts me that Beach and John Doe #2 are being forced to live through all this again due to some sleazy, high priced suit in the Blackhawks' legal department.
