UPDATE: Once a streaming link to the press conference becomes available it will be posted in this article. Stand by.
This just in, the Chicago Blackhawks are set to release the findings of their "independent investigation" into the alleged criminal activity on behalf of the team's executive staff as it relates to former video coach Brad Aldrich.
The allegations came to light this past offseason after a former player filed a lawsuit in Chicago against the franchise. That unnamed player alleges that he reported the abuse to the team and that he was essentially ignored. The player alleges that then team video coach Brad Aldrich had allegedly sexually assaulted him and then threatened him via text messages and other communications against making a complaint.
A second former player alleges that he was also sexual assaulted by Aldrich and he also accuses the Blackhawks of covering up the abuse of two players and then granting Aldrich a letter of reference when he left the team quietly in the summer of 2010. That letter gave him the opportunity to go on and find other victims, the lawsuit alleges.
Aldrich would go on to be convicted of abusing a 17 year old hockey player in 2013 after resigning from his position as director of hockey operations at Miami University on Nov. 27, 2012, “under suspicion of unwanted touching of a male adult."
Today, the independent investigation from Chicago law firm Jenner & Block will be released and Mark Lazerus of The Athletic is reporting that "major organizational changes" are expected to happen as a result of the investigation's findings.
Check it out:
On the hot seat, of course, is Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman.
If indeed Bowman is found to be culpable in covering up Aldrich's crimes then he needs to not only be removed from his position with the team, but he also must be held accountable by the law. I'm not a lawyer or an officer of the law so I don't know to what extent Bowman can be prosecuted, if at all... but if he's responsible in any capacity then I want justice done. Same goes for Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin, both of whom served as assistants under Bowman during the alleged crimes.
