Reports that Timo Meier could be on the move
Any takers for a 35 goal, point per game player?

There are so many unanswered questions heading into the season for the San Jose Sharks, but maybe the biggest questions will be reserved for the future of star forward Timo Meier.
The 25 year old forward is entering the final season of a deal that pays him $6 million and is expected to cash in big time if he hits the free agent market next offseason. As for the Sharks... well... they simply cannot afford to let Meier get away without a return. While Meier will technically be an RFA and the Sharks can retain his rights next offseason, they'd be wise to get him under contract long-term if the plan is to retain him at all. If they want to continue with their rebuild, however, they'd be wise to ship him out for a package of picks and prospects.
Meier himself says that there have been no discussions about a contract extension this offseason.
“There hasn’t been any conversation about that," Meier said during the NHL's European Media Tour this week. "I haven’t really thought too much about it, to be honest. I know my contract is up in a year, but I’m trying to focus on getting ready for the season and getting ready physically, doing my work during the offseason and having a good start into the season. So that’s kind of my only focus right now since the other stuff hasn’t been brought up and I’m not a guy that likes to think too much about that stuff.”
Rookie GM Mike Grier confirmed last month that there have been no discussions with Meier on a new deal.
“This conversation hasn’t come up and there haven’t been any negotiations or anything,” Meier repeated. “So my focus is in the right now and just getting ready for the season and play the best season I can have.”
For the record, Meier put up an impressive 35 goals and 76 points in 77 games for the Sharks last season. He was the team's leading scorer by a significant margin and he truly looks like he's beginning to hit his prime.
