The Flyers head coach loses his cool over Matvei Michkov questions.
The friction between Philadelphia Flyers star forward Matvei Michkov and Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet has been plain to see this season, and over the weekend it was once again brought into the spotlight after cameras caught a brief but heated exchange between the two men on the Flyers bench.
Of course given the level of attention that interaction between Michkov and Tocchet received over the weekend, those were many of the questions that Tocchet himself faced when he met with the media on Monday morning. After a number of questions on the topic of Michkov however, Tocchet made it clear he had had enough.
"We're 17-10, we've got a good record," said Tocchet. "I've answered six Michkov questions. I mean, enough's enough, guys."
Tocchet not only seemed annoyed at the fact that Michkov was getting so much attention, but also at the fact that some of his other players were being ignored as a result of that.
"We've got Vladar having a great year," said Tocchet. "Drysdale playing really good 5v5 for us. Yorkie's doing a real good job. We've got a lot of other players playing good (on the) team. "
"I mean, this is the 5th question. I appreciate it, but you're trying make something that's not (there)."
As for the player himself, Tocchet praised Michkov for improving his defensive game while also making it clear that it continues to be a work in progress.
"He's got to learn to play the game, and he's trying. He's a lot better defensively. He's a lot better playing a team game. And that's how you win hockey games. It's not about catering to one person. I hate to tell you guys. That's it."
Unfortunately for Tocchet and Michkov I fear this latest episode is only going to add to the scrutiny that has fallen upon the Flyers coach and his star player.
