Rumor: Maple Leafs' Dermott headed for a reunion with his former GM.

Is a reunion in the cards?

The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly shopping at least one of their defensemen, and it seems there is at least one destination that could make some sense.

Although it is not clear who the Maple Leafs are currently willing to move, odds are that fluctuates as time goes on, most of the focus has been on defensemen Justin Holl and Travis Dermott. Most appear to believe that Dermott will be the man to be moved and the fact that Holl has been left on the sidelines as of late as a healthy scratch, which he will once again be tonight, could be an indication that the Leafs are looking to showcase Dermott ahead of a trade.

Word is the Leafs aren't looking for a great deal in return, likely more interested in giving themselves some wiggle room under the National Hockey League's salary cap, and that is where a potential destination for Dermott may come in.

New York Islanders insider Arthur Staple believes that Dermott would be a good fit for the Islanders roster and with Lou Lamoriello as their current general manager there is reason to believe they could be interested. Lamoriello knows Dermott quite well as he was general manager of the Maple Leafs when the young defenseman was drafted, and getting him from the Leafs on the cheap could be just what the doctor ordered.

The Islanders have struggled on the blue line this season, most notably when former Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara has been on the ice. The big man has struggled with the Islanders this season and there's little doubt that Dermott would be viewed as an upgrade at this stage of their respective careers. Dermott would likely also be viewed as an upgrade over Andy Greene who has also been rotated into the Islanders defense this season, although whether or not Lamoriello has any genuine interest remains to be seen.

Dermott has had 10 appearances for the Maple Leafs thus far in the regular season and has no goals and 1 assist for a single point on the campaign. He currently has just 2 penalty minutes to his name on the season and boasts a plus minus rating of +1.
