Sabres broadcasters drop the gloves and get into it during a stoppage in play

Love this! Rob Ray is still an all-time beauty!

Don't look now but the Buffalo Sabres are... kinda good?

As crazy as it sounds, the Sabres are at the top of the standings early in the 2021-22 NHL season, thanks to a stellar 4-1-1 record in their first six games.

Forwards Victor Olofsson, Dylan Cozens and Tage Thompson look like they've taken a step in their development, while veteran forwards Zemgus Girgensons, Kyle Okposo and Jeff Skinner all look rejuvenated. Small victories for sure, but a team that looked like they were headed for disaster looks actually pretty decent in the early going.

And if you watched last night's 5-1 drubbing of the Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, it'd be hard to argue anything different. What stood out most to me during the Sabres' big win last night though wasn't the play on the ice, it was the banter between Sabres play. by play guy Dan Dunleavy and longtime color commentator Rob Ray.

Check out Dunleavy and Ray going back and forth on each other during a stoppage in play while arena staff fixed a penalty box gate:

Love it! Ray is still an absolute beauty and, frankly, Dunleavy is playing with fire a bit here! I know that the two are just ribbing each other, but I'm not so sure I'd be interested in ribbing a guy with over 3,000 career penalty minutes.

I mean... Ray is one of the NHL's all-time tough guys:

And Hell... it doesn't even matter if you're on skates or not. Fan, players, it doesn't matter... Razor Ray will take on all comers!

That's old time hockey, baby!

In all seriousness, Ray and Dunleavy, as well as longtime Sabres broadcaster Rick Jeanneret, are all masters of the chirp and they have absolutely no problem dishing out and taking chirps from each other all game long. While some local broadcasters are stiff and tasteless these days, the Sabres' crew has absolutely no problem serving up an entertaining broadcast.
