As if things were already bad enough for the Boston Bruins, the update on Hampus Lindholm that came after the Carolina Hurricanes’ 5-2 win was even worse.
Lindholm suffered what appeared to be a head injury on a heavy hit from Hurricanes forward Andrei Svechnikov. After getting a pass behind his own net, Lindholm turned up ice and collided with a fast-oncoming Svechnikov, whom he didn’t see until the very last second.
This is a massive clean hit, but it remains tough to watch.
Lindholm appeared woozy after the hit and needed the help of teammate Linus Ullmark, who grabbed him and kept him from falling as he tried to stand up. He needed help getting off the ice to make his way to the dressing room, and was later ruled out for the remainder of the game with an upper-body injury.
Svechnikov was not penalized for the hit. He got two minutes for roughing when Brandon Carlo came to the defense of his teammate.
After the game, head coach Bruce Cassidy offered a quick yet scary update on Lindholm, saying that his defenseman was not doing well.
When it comes to head injuries, this is always a scary update. Fans should find out more about his condition on Thursday.
We wish him the best.
