Sidney Crosby records point #1400 with a beautiful OT winner.

Crosby makes it memorable.

Sidney Crosby has made this a milestone that he will no doubt remember for many years to come.

On Sunday evening the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Nashville Predators in what was a hotly contested game both on the scoreboard and in terms of the level of physicality on the ice. There was plenty of rough stuff in this one including a big time hit from Predators rookie Tanner Jeannot, who crushed Kris Letang in the open ice and proceeded to give Mike Matheson a few knuckle sandwiches when he objected to the hit, and even some stuff from Penguins star forward Evgeni Malkin that went a little over the line.

The big moment everyone will be talking about coming out of this game however will be how the game ended, and how Crosby achieved an incredible milestone at the exact same time. The Penguins captain could not have picked a better moment to record the 1400th point of his career in the National Hockey League, recording the overtime winner for the Penguins and giving them a 3 - 2 win against another playoff team in the Predators.

First Crosby managed to wrestle the puck away from Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm before then using a great individual effort to keep the play alive and make an attempt at a pass. That attempted pass would fail however after being deflected in front of the Predators net, only to end up on the stick of recently acquired Penguins forward Rickard Rakell who would set Crosby up for a tap in with a great assist from the slot.

Not only is hitting 1400 points in the NHL an incredible and memorable achievement all on its own, but now it will forever be linked with Crosby's overtime winning goal. That is something I'm sure he will be more than fine with.

The moment, the context of his personal milestone and perhaps even the joy of finishing off a great play were all plain to see on the face of the Penguins captain who was beaming with joy while celebrating with his teammates on the ice.
