Team Canada has an unusually stacked roster at the International Ice Hockey Federation's World Championship tournament and a huge part of that stems from the addition of Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby to the roster.

Crosby's addition to the roster was quickly followed by the addition of longtime friend and fellow National Hockey League superstar Nathan MacKinnon to that very same roster, giving the Canadian squad a significant and unexpected boost of talent up front.

There was plenty of speculation regarding why Crosby made the decision with many pointing to a lack of meaningful games for the Penguins in recent years, and as it turns out that speculation was pretty close to the mark. On Saturday, Crosby was open about his reasons for joining the Canadian roster and admitted that it was due to the fact that he wasn't sure how many opportunities he would have to play meaningful games remaining before his professional hockey career comes to an end.

"At my age, it's not too often you get the opportunity to keep playing in tournaments like this, represent Canada, be part of this group," admitted a very honest Crosby. "It's more about not having many chances to do this and trying to take advantage."

I have no doubt that hockey fans are thrilled at the prospect of getting to see one of the world's very best playing in those big games that every professional athlete craves, and it's already proven to be a boon for the Canadian squad. In Canada's first official game of the tournament they dominated the opposition, with all 4 of their goals coming from players currently active in the NHL.
