Stars fans show true colors in response to Scheifele tragedy.
An unbelievable act from fans of the Dallas Stars on the day Mark Scheifele's father passed away.
It is moments like these that make you proud to be a hockey fans.
Saturday morning should have been an exciting one for the Winnipeg Jets ahead of Game 6 in their second round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Dallas Stars, but instead they awoke to some truly tragic news. That's because at some point during the night Brad Scheifele, father of Winnipeg Jets star forward Mark Scheifele, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away.
The news sent shockwaves through the Jets organization with Mark Scheifele himself understandably devastated by the news, but it was obvious from the interviews conducted on Saturday that Mark and his family weren't alone in their pain.
The news couldn't come at a worse time for the Jets who will have their entire season on the line tonight against the Stars in what has quickly turned into a heated series. Not only are the two teams competing for a spot in the Western Conference Final but many view this as a showdown between Team USA goaltenders Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger, a rivalry that has quickly spread through the fans of both teams.
In spite of that fierce rivalry however, on Saturday fans of the Dallas Stars showed their true colors when they responded to the tragic news surrounding the Scheifele family with an incredible display of class and grace. In an effort to show their support for their opponents tonight, fans began flooding charities supported by Scheifele with donations, most of which were in the form of a $55 donation in honor of Scheifele's number 55 jersey. "55 for 55" was the slogan that was used to spread the message through the Stars fan base, again an incredible display of class from the fans who participated.
