Earlier this summer, there was a significant update about the investigation into the 2018 World Juniors scandal that has rocked Hockey Canada to its very foundations. It was then believed that results of that investigation are about to be revealed and that players currently in the NHL will be suspended as a result of that very same investigation.

Last week, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly was asked by Michael Russo of The Athletic where stood the investigation and the pending suspensions, hinting at a possible announcement ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Now more hints have emerged on which players could be suspended as Philadelphia Flyers fans noticed that goalie Carter Hart made his Instagram account private and removed “Flyers” from his bio. He also went dark on his account, which prompted much chatter on his involvement in the crime.

The problem is huge for the Flyers as well, who made it clear this summer that Hart is not their goalie of the future.

In addition to Hart, three other players on the 2018 Hockey Canada World Junior team have also gone dark on their Instagram accounts. Fans also pointed out that Brett Howden of the Vegas Golden Knights, Dillon Dube of the Calgary Flames, Jonah Gadjovich of the San Jose Sharks have also done the same. There is some doubt however on Dube and Gadjovich, who some believe had private accounts already.

There is also chatter about other Hockey Canada players, such as Alex Formenton and Maxime Comtois, who have not been signed as free agents yet.

Back in May of 2022, news broke that Hockey Canada quietly settled a lawsuit filed by a woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted by eight unnamed players, including several members of the country’s 2018 world junior team, following a gala in London, Ontario. Many players then made statements that they weren’t involved, but others have yet to comment. Forwards Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou, who were members of the 2018 world junior team, released separate statements on social media, claiming they had no involvement in the alleged incident.

The players were not identified in court documents.

But they might be very soon now…
