Two big blows to Canada's Olympic roster in a single night.
Just days after locking in their Olympic roster for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan, Italy, management at Hockey Canada was likely holding their collective breaths.
That's because on Saturday night not 1 but 2 players named to the Canadian roster were injured in a single night as things suddenly turned very ugly for Team Canada.
The first injury occurred when Washington Capitals enforcer Tom Wilson was injured after being on the receiving end of a hit from Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy.
Now the good news here for Team Canada is that it doesn't sound like the injury to Wilson is too serious, which hopefully means it won't have an impact on his participation in the tournament. The Capitals announced that Wilson was questionable to return after leaving Saturday night's game, a status that would appear to reflect a relatively minor injury. Of course things can change over time.
The more concerning-looking injury however was to Colorado Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews. Toews was injured after he was sent into the boards by Carolina Hurricanes forward Nikolaj Ehlers, with Ehlers tripping Toews from behind with his skate as the two men approached the boards.
The end result was Toews falling backwards as he went hurtling towards the boards like a missle. When Toews impacted the boards he did so with his legs first, causing him to fold up like an accordian in the process.
This situation with Toews looked quite bad and there has been no official update from the Avalanche on his status since the injury occurred.
A tough night for Team Canada's Olympic hopes, but stay tuned for more updates on both Wilson and Toews in the coming days.
