Terrible update on the health of NHL legend Mike Bossy.

The NHL legend has been in a tough battle.

We have some sad news to report.

Over the weekend rumors began to circulate about the health of National Hockey League legend Mike Bossy, and unfortunately the news was not good. Those rumors suggested that Bossy had been moved to his home in order to be closer to his family in his final moments of life, and it would now appear that the news is in fact legitimate.

Over the course of the last several hours a few prominent members of the Canadian media have issued statements indicating that they are keeping Bossy and his family in their thoughts and prayers, presumably as a response to the latest news regarding the Hockey Hall of Famer's current health.

The first to comment on the topic was Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, who issued the following statement on Sunday:

"Say a prayer, if you’ve got a moment, for the great Mike Bossy, maybe the most gifted goal scorer in hockey history, who is battling lung cancer," wrote Simmons via his social media.

On Monday morning National Hockey League analyst Jeff Marek also issued a statement regarding Bossy, sending positive thoughts to both Bossy and the New York Islanders family as a whole.

"Thoughts for Mike Bossy," wrote Marek on social media. "So many great games, so many great highlights. This has been a real tough year for the Islanders family."

"I'd like to add too - every time I dealt with Mike Bossy he has been a pure gentleman. Such a nice man."

As many of you reading this will probably already know, Bossy revealed publicly in October of last year that he had been battling lung cancer. Bossy, who had been working for French language television network TVA at the time, stepped down from his position at the network following the announcement in order to focus on his health.

Bossy is considered by many to rank among the greatest players in the history of sport, having led the Islanders to 4 consecutive Stanley Cup titles as part of one of hockey's greatest dynasties. He is a Conn Smythe Trophy winner and holds a number of NHL records including being the only player in the history of the league to have 4 game winning goals in a single playoff series.

Our thoughts are with Mike Bossy, his family and his loved ones in this difficult time.
