Tkachuk brothers give their unfiltered thoughts on Leo Carlsson's $18 million contract.

The Philadelphia Flyers shocked the National Hockey League earlier this summer when they announced that they had signed Anaheim Ducks forward Leo Carlsson to a record setting offer sheet, a 5 year contract at an average annual value and salary cap hit of $18 million per season.

It was a number that shocked fans and pundits alike, but that shock may not extend to those working within the NHL itself. This past week we heard from two of the NHL's biggest personalities on the topic when Matthew and Brady Tkachuk shared their thoughts on the historic offer sheet during the most recent episode of their podcast.

"$18 million it's not an overpay whatsoever," said Brady on the podcast. "Unbelievable, he comes as advertised, $18 million is probably going to be an underpay."

"Yeah for sure," said Matthew in agreement with his younger brother.

There's been plenty of debate about whether or not the Ducks did the right thing by matching the offer sheet the Flyers extended to Carlsson, but it seems there's no debate at all when it comes to the Tkachuk's. Matthew left no doubt that he believed the compensation the Ducks would have received had they not matched was nowhere close to enough.

"He's worth 8 first rounders," said Matthew. "Maybe even more."

We are already seeing some potentially serious consequences for the Ducks as a result of this offer sheet, and it sounds like the Tkachuk brothers believe this contract will have repercussions for the league as a whole.

"It's definitely one of those types of deals that kind of changes the outlook for everybody else in the NHL for years to come," said Matthew.
