Trade brewing in urgency in Los Angeles!

The Kings are desperate for help…

The time is now. The Los Angeles Kings are looking to bolster their blue line by, at the very least, adding a depth defenseman on the right side. This is what Pierre LeBrun reported on Thursday night’s edition of Insider Trading on TSN:

That’s because Drew Doughty and Sean Walker, two of the Kings’ top blue liners, both suffered significant long-term injuries this season. Doughty is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks with a knee ailment, while Walker is out for the entire season with a torn ACL and MCL.

While the Kings would prefer to focus their trade attention elsewhere, the team has no other choice. This is how LeBrun puts it:

“Maybe not the kind of the trade the Kings would like to make in a perfect world because they’re hamstrung by the cap but the long-term injuries to two of their top four defensemen on the right side, Drew Doughty and Sean Walker, has them working the phones looking for, at least, a depth defenseman for the right side. Doughty will be back in 6-to-8 weeks so that’s why they can’t just go out and replace his $11 million cap hit. Walker is out for the season. Huge injuries for the Kings’ blue line and the team hopes to at least go and find some depth there.”

The issue is that the Kings don’t have a lot of money in their wallet at the moment. Per Cap Friendly, Los Angeles currently has $161,000 in cap space. If the Kings can place Walker on long-term injured reserve, they’d get an additional $2.65 million in space.

They are working the phone lines as we speak…
