Trade demands pile up in Calgary after Zadorov admitted he wanted out!

Seems like he’s not the only one…

They might have gotten the 2-1 win last night over the Canadiens in Montreal, the Calgary Flames are sitting 26th in the NHL standings with just five wins in 15 games.

After defenseman Nikita Zadorov expressed the desire to be traded out of Calgary, rumours surfaced that he may not be the only one. Pierre LeBrun confirmed the chatter on last night’s edition of Insider Trading on TSN, reporting the Russian player isn’t the only blue liner drawing interest from other teams.

“The bottom line is this: the Zadorov trade request that came out Friday night was really just the tip of the iceberg - what teams are telling us is that the Flames are listening on other pending unrestricted free agents: Chris Tanev, Noah Hanifin, Elias Lindholm, the Flames are ready for a roster reset here. Now, Hanifin almost signed an extension here last month, close to $6 million, but he decided he wanted to wait and think about things and now that ship has sailed. The Flames are listening on these guys but they’ve got no hurry, they have until March 8 for the trade deadline to seek a return on these players.”

Therefore, it sounds like Zadorov may not be the only one wanting out. LeBrun’s colleague Darren Dreger added that the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils are the primary teams most interested in one of those Calgary defensemen.

If the Flames commit to a full rebuild, it is believed that more players could want out, including forward Nazem Kadri, who isn’t likely to want part in a retooling situation.

While for now Zadorov is the only one holding the for sale sign, he could be joined by other Flames’ teammate, especially if things still look grim at the end of the first half of the season…
