Philadelphia Flyers rookie forward Matvei Michkov has become entangled in a bizarre legal situation while vacationing in Dubai. New details have emerged that paint a troubling picture involving a car accident, alleged extortion, and passport theft.

Earlier on Wednesday, we shared a report that Michkov had been involved in a car accident while on vacation in Dubai. According to information shared by Alexey Shevchenko from “Sport-Express”, the situation was marred by suspicious behavior: alcohol consumption, the presence of sex workers, and irregularities with identification documents. It was also reported that Michkov may have left the country without proper administrative clearance.

Now new information has emerged stating that the Flyers’ star forward had rented a BMW 430 with a friend during his holiday in the United Arab Emirates. The situation took a turn when the friend — not Michkov — crashed the vehicle while Michkov was in the passenger seat. Thankfully, neither individual was injured. Michkov was reportedly sober, and the driver passed an alcohol test at the scene.

The controversy began after the incident, when the car rental company, identified as Sokol Car Rental, allegedly demanded 10 million rubles (approximately $125,000 USD) from Michkov. In an even more disturbing twist, the company reportedly confiscated both Michkov’s and his friend’s passports — an act that would constitute a criminal offense under UAE law.

Michkov’s lawyer issued a statement clarifying that his client had not broken any laws in the UAE and had no involvement in the crash beyond being a passenger. He emphasized that Michkov did not consume alcohol and that local authorities have no legal case against him.

Furthermore, the lawyer accused the rental company of attempting to blackmail Michkov by threatening to release information to the media unless he paid the exorbitant sum. The statement claims that evidence of this extortion exists, including screenshots of messages from the rental company and witness testimony that corroborates the allegations.
