Nazem Kadri should make a mental note, don't bite off more than you can chew.
The Toronto Maple Leafs forward attempted to make a play on Wednesday night at the Air Canada Centre in his team's matchup against the Winnipeg Jets. Unfortunately for him, it nearly took him out of the game.
As the puck circles the boards, it ends up at the point on the stick of Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien. Kadri sees the opportunity to lay a hit on Byfuglien and attempts to throw his body into all six-foot-five, 260 pounds of Big Buff.
It did not work out well for Kadri as he bounces off of Byfuglien like a super ball and ends up in a heap on the ice. To make matters worse, Byfuglien maintained possession of the puck, while a hunched-over Kadri skated to the Leafs bench.
“On that hit I threw on Byfuglien, I thought my sternum collapsed. I wasn’t really quite sure what was going on,” a smiling Kadri told reporters after the game. “That’s what days off are for.”
“I’m not the biggest guy so I’m not gonna flatten a lot of people,” Kadri said, “but I’m definitely gonna work.”
There was definitely some work going on here, if you mean Kadri getting worked over.
