Vitek Vanecek signs multi-year, $10 million deal in free agency with Capitals' rival
Goalies keep getting PAID this offseason!

Free agent goaltender Vitek Vanecek has signed a three year contract worth $10.2 million with the New Jersey Devils.
The former Washington Capitals netminder will make $3.4 million per season for the next three years. To me, that's a significant overpay both in dollars and term for a guy who has played just 81 career NHL games. He managed 20 wins in 42 games with the Capitals last season and put up a 2.67 goals against average and .908 save percentage. Fine, by any measure but I'm not sure I'd want to pin three years and $10 million on a goalie with those kind of results.
The Devils now have 26 year old Vanecek and 25 year old MacKenzie Blackwood as their likely duo for next season because it's not known what the future holds for injured veteran Jonathan Bernier. Again... not a bad tandem, but no one will mistake these guys for Martin Brodeur anytime soon.
