On Tuesday, the status for Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander seemed uncertain as he participated in some warm-up drills, but left the ice before the start of practice and did not return.
However on Wednesday morning, he met with media ahead of Game 2 against the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight and made a stunning announcement that he played through food poisoning in Game 1 and still managed to help Toronto get a 5-0 win over the Bolts.
He shared with media how he ate some bad sushi for lunch ahead of the first game of the series and was sick, but couldn’t let him missed out on the action. But he was puking right before puck drop...
“You can’t let the food poisoning get to you.”
Wise words indeed…
While Nylander did not record a point in the first game, he showed his teammates that he was not going to let them down despite bad sushi.
Some rumours have emerged that the Maple Leafs, who keep struggling with cap space, could consider trading Nylander in the offseason. While nothing is set in stone, Nylander is proving to be a tough customer and is likely to get back to producing tonight in Game 2. Especially now that he is feeling better and staying from sushi.
