On Monday the Vancouver Canucks dealt veteran forward Kiefer Sherwood to the San Jose Sharks, putting an end to weeks and months of speculation around Sherwood and his future.

Trades can seem like simple business transactions and at times it's easy to forget that there are human beings involved in these transactions, something that Sherwood showed on Monday after he was traded in just his second season as a member of the Canucks.

Sherwood, who was clearly emotional as he delivered the comments, spoke of how much the City of Vancouver meant to him due to the opportunities he had been afforded as a Canuck.

"First and foremost I am really thankful for everything the city and this organization have given me," began Sherwood in his first comments since the trade. "As a guy that has been a late bloomer, it was everything I could have hoped for and more. This is a really special place to play."

Sherwood admitted in his comments that the trade was a difficult one for him to process.

"That's the hard part at times about the business," said Sherwood. "You get attached to certain cites and communities and I feel like this city and place to play, this organization, they do things the right way. They live and breath hockey."

Perhaps Sherwood's most heartfelt comments however where those in which he expressed his disappointment in failing to bring playoff success to the fans in the City of Vancouver.

"I just told Patrik [Allvin] and Jim [Rutherford] that I wanted nothing more signing here than to make the playoffs," said Sherwood. "This city I know how much it means to them and craves it, and the playoffs are a special time for every city and team but it's different here. Hopefully it's sooner rather than later."

It was frankly a fantastic and honest interview from Sherwood, and I encourage to you to listen to it in the short clip below:
