Alex Burrows looks on in disgust as singer butchers Canadian national anthem.
That look says it all.
You should always be mindful of the fact that, if you are at a sporting event that will be televised, the cameras are always rolling.
On Saturday night the Montreal Canadiens were in action facing off against the St. Louis Blues and it was another rough outing in a season of rough outings for the Canadiens, who eventually fell by a score of 4 - 1. This time things were a little different for the Canadiens however because things went off the rails before the game even got underway.
As is tradition before teams play in the National Hockey League, we are treated to a rendition of the national anthem for the teams participating in the game. In the case where a team from the United States of America plays a team from Canada, both the Canadian national anthem and the American national anthem are played. Unfortunately on Saturday night the young lady who was tasked with the job had a bit of a blunder during the Canadian version of the anthem.
Either she didn't know the words to begin with and did her best to ad lib her way through the thing, or she simply was struck by nerves in front of such a large audience and lost her words, but the end result was not the Canadian national anthem. I suspect that it hurt the ears of more than a few Canadians when they heard their country's song being butchered, and we didn't have to look very far to find an example.
One sharp eyed observer happened to catch the expression of former National Hockey League player Alex Burrows when he heard the anthem, and thankfully for us the broadcast just so happened to pan to him right as the blunder occurred. The look of confusion and disgust on the face of Burrows says it all, although I don't think he meant anything mean or untoward by it.
Burrows was just having a genuine reaction to an unfortunate moment and I believe both he and his fellow Canadians would be quick to forgive the anthem singer for her unfortunate mishap.
