There will be nothing as huge than the news back in November that the Chicago Blackhawks were letting go of legendary head coach Joel Quenneville, who was replaced by a younger candidate Jeremy Colliton

However, even though Colliton has made impactful changes this year that could see the Hawks becoming contenders once again in the near future, it seems like more changes were needed to get what the team has been seeking for the upcoming season.

That’s why on Thursday, the Blackhawks announced another coaching change as they have hired Tomas Mitell as an assistant coach.

Per team insider Scott Powers of The Athletic, the 38-year-old Mitell was an assistant under Colliton at Mora IK in Sweden. Mitell has been the head coach of AIK in Sweden’s second division, Allsvenskan, the past few seasons.

Colliton is surrounding himself with people he can trust to make the best of his team.

General manager Stan Bowman is expected to do the same and get players he need to boost his roster this summer as for once, the Hawks will have significant cap space to get shopping on the free-agent or the trade markets.

Exciting times to come in the Windy City!
