Blockbuster trade rumor involving Ottawa's Erik Karlsson.

Huge update on stunning trade rumor.

Earlier this month Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson made some shocking comments to the media about his future with the Ottawa Senators, comments that followed a similar statement from Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty.

The entire situation resulted in some rather stunning trade rumors around both players although they tended to focus more around Karlsson. While that is unsurprising given that he plays for a Canadian, much more surprising is the fact that those rumors now appear to be credible.

In a truly shocking report Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that he believes the Senators have approached Karlsson to request his 10-team no trade list as per the terms of his current contract, a move that appears to indicate a trade is now a serious possibility.

From Friedman:

Here’s what we know: As per Karlsson’s contract, the Senators have the right to ask him for a list of 10 teams he can’t be traded to. He has 48 hours from the request to submit it.

I’d heard that, in the aftermath of his “I’m going to get what I’m worth” comments two weeks ago, Ottawa made the ask.

Needless to say a trade involving Karlsson would likely be the biggest trade deal we have seen in years, and could even prove to be bigger than the trade involving P.K. Subban and Shea Weber.

Of course Ottawa asking Karlsson for his no-trade list does not mean they are the verge of trading him, but it would certainly indicate that they are at least considering the possibility. That alone is truly shocking news.
