The Boston Bruins and the Columbus Blue Jackets are facing off in the second round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs and Game 1 set the stage for what will no doubt be a budding rivalry between these two teams over the course of the series. We are now minutes away from Game 2 where these 2 teams will face off once again, but if you have not been paying close attention you may have missed some of the stuff that has been going on since.

Things got a little chippy between some of the Bruins and the Blue Jackets in Game 1 and unsurprisingly notorious Boston Bruins agitator Brad Marchand was once again at the center of all of it. The Bruins forward is notorious for getting under the skin of his opponents, especially in the playoffs, but those type of antics were noticeably absent from his play in the first round against the Toronto Maple Leafs. That was not the case for Game 1 against the Blue Jackets though as Marchand was once again up to his old tricks.

Perhaps the best dirty trick that Marchand pulled out of his big bag of tricks was a move in the overtime frame in which he attempted to take Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson out of the play, and perhaps get him off his game mentally in the process. During the face off Marchand could clearly be seen stomping on Atkinson's stick, something that the Blue Jackets veteran would address after the game.

“He owes me $300, so you can tell him that,” said Atkinson, who said he'd go “toe-to-toe” with Marchand as per NBC Sports. “I'm expecting that. Cash. Straight cash.”

Marchand though had a brilliant response and was quick to point the finger of blame at Atkinson for the incident, acting  completely innocent all the while.

"I think he was trying to dull my blade there,” said Marchand, with a smirk on his face while insinuating that Atkinson slid his stick blade under his skate ahead of the draw. “Send me to the room, get it sharpened. It's kind of rude of him to do."

Atkinson was not the only one to be on the receiving end of a verbal barb from Marchand though. Former Boston Bruin Riley Nash laid out Bruins forward David Krejci with a big hit in Game 1 and Marchand was quick to call him out for doing so.

“I don’t think he had a hit in two years with us.” said Marchand.

Setting the stage for Game 2 I'm sure.
