The Florida Panthers had an incredibly active offseason and they are still going this late into the summer.

According to a report from Sportsnet insider Chris Johnston, the Panthers have agreed to terms on a massive new deal with 23 year old former first round draft pick Jonathan Huberdeau. There has been no official confirmation from the Panthers but according to Johnson it's a six-year contract extension that will pay Huberdeau $35.4 million over the duration of the contract, an average annual value of $5.9 million per season.

It's big money to commit to a 23 year old, however the motivation for the Panthers here is clear, they wanted this deal done before Huberdeau went on to cost them even more down the line., he has had two excellent seasons back to back and appears to have really found his stride at the NHL level with Panthers.

Huberdeau was just shy of the 60 point mark last season, and with the prime years of his career ahead of him the Panthers believe he will be a part of their long-term future.
