Breaking: 25-year-old former first round pick cut by team, career may be over.

It's a sad day for one young National Hockey League player, and it's a shocking day for many of us who follow the game.

Despite being just 25-years-old and despite being a former first round draft pick, the Anaheim Ducks have announced that they will be cutting ties with defenseman Simon Despres effective immediately. 

Anaheim Ducks general manager issued an official statement revealing that his organization had made a decision to part ways with Despres who has been chronically injured throughout his career. 

While the Ducks haven't made any kind of statement on his injuries, this may be a sign that at 25 Despres' career is already in serious jeopardy and furthermore could indicate that his time in the NHL is coming to an end. 

The Ducks will be buying out his remaining contract and it's at that time that we will know if there remains an NHL team willing to take a major gamble by signing him.
