Tough break for Oshie.

Reports began to leak out yesterday suggesting that Washington Capitals star forward T.J. Oshie had suffered a season ending injury but, although those reports seemed entirely legit with solid sources behind them, the Capitals continued to remain silent on the Oshie front until now.

On Sunday with the news already widespread that Oshie would not play again this season the Capitals finally decided to reveal the nature of the injury he suffered back in Game 4 of the Capitals first round series against the CArolina Hurricanes in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. According to a breaking news report from the Capitals organization T.J. Oshie has undergone a surgical procedure, although the Capitals did not reveal when this procedure took place, to repair the damage he suffered to his right clavicle. According to the reports from the Capitals Oshie suffered a fracture to his right clavicle and will be "out indefinitely" as a result of this surgery.

Although the Capitals have not flat out stated that Oshie will not appear again this season, sources close to the situation have revealed that Oshie is not expected to return to the ice before the end of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This is of course a huge blow to the Capitals' hopes of repeating as Stanley Cup Champions, although their response to the Oshie injury last night might suggest otherwise, and it likely puts a target on the back of Hurricanes player Warren Foegele, the man who injured Oshie.

Foegele of course delivered a questionable shove to the back of Oshie while the latter was dangerously close to the boards. That shove was enough to propel Oshie into the boards with enough force that it would leave him with a fractured clavicle, although I must admit that I do not believe Foegele was attempting to injure Oshie on the play and the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety appears to have felt the same way. That of course will be of absolutely no comfort to the fans of the Washington Capitals or the Capitals players themselves however. Rightly or wrongly I fully expect that there will be a big target of Foegele's back for the rest of the series, especially considering that the Capitals will have a chance to eliminate them moving forward.
