Breaking: Capitals put player on waivers, pull him off… trade coming?

In case you missed it, the Washington Capitals have placed favorite Smith-Pelly on waivers, but just minutes prior to the announcement a team official confirmed that they would place Smith-Pelly’s teammate Dmitrij Jaskin on waivers.

All morning it was reported that Jaskin would be headed for the waiver wire… but then Smith-Pelly was pulled from practice and placed on waivers in Jaskin’s place.

That’s… suspicious? Trade coming? Maybe once word got out that Jaskin was hitting the waiver wire, someone decided to make a call to Caps GM Brian MacLellan?

So a team spokesman originally said Dmitrij Jaskin was going on waivers. Maybe GM Brian MacLellan got a call with an offer for him once news got out?

Todd Reirden said Capitals “changed their mind” on who they would waive.

Reirden said there is a lot going on behind the scenes with the team.
