Breaking: Early update on Krug injury is terrible news for the Bruins.

Nightmare scenario for the Bruins.

We have an update on Torey Krug and unfortunately the news that continues to pour in continues  to be bad for the Boston Bruins.

For those of you who missed our earlier report, Krug was forced to leave Saturday night's contest between the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers during the games opening period. At the time we did not know for certain why Krug had left the game but given the sudden nature of his departure it seemed safe to speculate that the veteran defenseman had in fact been injured.

As I stated in our original report had it been the Bruins resting Krug he would not have left in the middle of a period and the fact that he failed to return to the bench for the second period appeared to confirm my suspicious. A few moments after that report went out the Boston Bruins themselves would confirm that the Bruins defenseman had in fact been injured and would miss the rest of the match up against the Flyers. The timing of the injury, during Boston's very last preseason game prior to the start of the 2018 - 2019 NHL regular season, could not be any worst for Boston.

Not only will Krug's injury now bleed over into the regular season should he be out for any length of time, but he is now the second core member of Boston's power play unit to go down to an injury. The Bruins power play in the preseason has not looked sharp but you could chalk a lot of that up to the absence of Bruins superstar center Patrice Bergeron. Not only does Bergeron win a ton of face offs for Boston but a great deal of the power runs through him and up the middle of the ice. Krug serves as the quarterback on the blue line during those power plays and with both of them sidelined I do not expect the Bruins power play to produce anywhere near the level at which it would be expected to do so if both men were healthy.

Unfortunately it gets worse Bruins fans as we now have another unofficial report that seems to be laying out the nightmare scenario for the Bruins. A new report from Joe McDonald of The Athletic has just revealed that Torey Krug was spotted with a walking boot on at the arena, it's unclear if Krug was waiting around after the game or if he was spotted leaving the building with the boot on his foot.

This would appear to indicate that Krug has suffered some form of lower body injury, presumably to his leg, knee, ankle or foot. I do not expect that we will be getting any additional details on the status of Krug following tonight's game and it's likely that the Bruins themselves won't have any concrete answers for a couple of days at least.

Needless to say walking boots are never a good sign for a hokey player and they usually, although not always, signify that the player wearing the boot has suffered an injury of some significance.
