When you can't even make it with the Arizona Coyotes, you know your career is headed for its inevitable end.

Such is the fate of one Emerson Etem, former first round pick of the Anaheim Ducks, as he has officially been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination.

After displaying promise with the Ducks, Etem had been traded to the New York Rangers in exchange for Carl Hagelin and picks. The trade backfired for the Rangers as Etem proved completely ineffective in the 19 games he played with the organization.

Hagelin, while not playing his best hockey as of late, proved to be a much more important player throughout his career thus far, figuring to be one of the key components of the Pittsburgh Penguins' last two Stanley Cup runs.

Etem hasn't played a single game in Arizona this year, racking up a mediocre 5 points in 16 games for the Tucson Roadrunners in the AHL.
