Mike Vecchione just had one hell of a season for Union College, so much so that quite a few NHL teams have taken notice. One of them is the Philadelphia Flyers, a team Vecchione would apparently be happy to join.

According to Sam Carchidi of Philly.com, Vecchione is eager to play in the NHL and said, “I’d be happy to be a Flyer”.

What makes Vecchione such a hot commodity? How about his record setting 29 goals and 63 points in 38 games as captain of Union College in his senior year this season? His strength on and off the puck, two-way awareness, and ability to play at center or on the wing makes Vecchione a versatile offensive threat that won’t cost you on defence.

That is to say, he’s the full package.

Vecchione’s final NCAA season has also earned him a spot as a finalist for the collegiate MVP Hobey Baker Award.

The Saugus, Massachusetts native stands 5’11 and weighs in at 194 lbs. The 24-year-old has grabbed attention from his local Boston Bruins among other NHL franchises.

Vecchione attended the Flyer’s development camp last season before deciding to finish his college career with Union College. Flyers GM Ron Hextall and assistant GM Chris Pryor were there to watch his final NCAA game.

Philly fans have come out in droves on social media to try and help sway the promising forward to dress in the orange and black. Vecchione is expected to make a decision early next week.
