Breaking: Former NHL enforcer helps detain man who attempted to kidnap a child.

A former National Hockey League enforcer was involved in detaining a man who allegedly tried to kidnap a 7 year old girl while she was at a park with her parents on Saturday afternoon.

The man reportedly attempted to commit his crime in plain sight, a big mistake as many people around the park were alerted by the screams of the young girl, including none other than George Laraque.

"It was surreal," Laraque told CBC News. "The park was full of people everywhere."

"Everybody saw it. There were so many witnesses when it happened."

Laraque said he and others watched over the man after he was detained, and he made it clear he was ready to bring the man down if he attempted to flee justice.

"I just wanted to make sure that if he got up that I was going to tackle him right away," said Laraque, who racked up 1,126 penalty minutes over his 13-year NHL career.

Police are reportedly questioning what has only been described as a 24 year old man, and despite the fact that this disaster was avoided, Laraque admits it was a disturbing moment for all involved.

"I have twins and this could happen to anyone," Laraque said. "We've heard stories of a child being abducted and to see [something] like that — it's pretty scary."
