In case you missed it, Edmonton Oilers defenseman Brandon Manning cleared waivers this afternoon and will accept assignment to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.

Placed on waivers today however are four NHL veterans with Patrick Eaves (Anaheim Ducks), Michael Haley (Florida Panthers), Thomas McCollum (Nashville Predators) and Michael Leighton (Vancouver Canucks) up for grabs.

In the case of both McCollum and Leighton, the two goaltenders have officially signed NHL contracts with their clubs and, as a result, must be placed on waivers before they can be assigned to the AHL.

Eaves’ injury history and his battle with Guillain–Barré syndrome is well documented and there’s a real concern that he’ll never play again. As for Haley, the 32 year old forward forward has played just 24 games for the Panthers this season, but he’s a former 200+ penalty minute man who could add some grit to a playoff lineup. Worth a shot?
