Breaking: Hitchcock’s future has been decided

Will the veteran bench boss be back in Edmonton?

According to multiple online reports, the Edmonton Oilers will NOT be bringing head coach Ken Hitchcock back for the 2019-20 season and beyond.

Hitchcock, of course, was hired by former general manager Peter Chiarelli mid-season in an attempt to stop the team’s downward spiral. The Hitchcock experiment had mixed results, but ultimately the Oilers missed the playoffs for a second consecutive season. We all know the fallout… Chiarelli was fired and with Ken Holland expected to be announced as the team’s next GM any moment, it was inevitable that a coaching change was coming in Oil Country.

There are several qualified candidates out there for Holland to choose from including Dave Tippett, Todd Nelson, Kris Knoblauch and…. Mike Babcock?
