Breaking: Huge rumor about Auston Matthews' next contract.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have one of the most important contract negotiations in franchise history coming up and it sounds like star forward Auston Matthews is about to get paid in a major way.

On Thursday during TSN's Insider Trading segment, TSN insider Darren Dreger touched on the upcoming contract negotiations between the Leafs and Matthews, and he believes Matthews could earn even more than Oilers captain Connor McDavid.

In fact Dreger stated that due to the cap increase by the end of Matthews' current contract, the Leafs could be looking at a deal in the range of $13 million to 13.5 million on an 8-year contract extension for Matthews.

Needless to say that deal would make Matthews the richest player in the entire National Hockey League, although given how much he has meant to the franchise we don't think fans or the Leafs organization will mind at all.
