There was a very big and very important meeting in Boston today, and we have a mix of good news and bad news to report from that meeting.

First the good news. According to a breaking news report from TSN insider Pierre LeBrun, the agent for Boston Bruins star David PastrnakJP Barry, had a lengthy meeting with Bruins general manager Don Sweeney regarding a new contract for his client.

Also good news is the fact that LeBrun reports that dialogue has picked up between the two sides, something that would appear to indicate that both parties want to get something done, this despite all the negative rumors over the past few weeks.

There is some bad news however. According to LeBrun there remains a "sizable gap" between the two sides, although how large that gap is remains unclear at this time. The Bruins reportedly offered Pastrnak $6 million per season earlier this summer, and there is a belief they will need to move that number quite a bit to get this deal done.

Nonetheless this is the first positive sign for Bruins fans, and this will likely be well received.
