Breaking: Khaira and Dunn both receive supplemental discipline for ugly head shots

NHL Player Safety lays down the hammer!

In case you missed it, Edmonton Oilers forward Jujhar Khaira and St. Louis Blues defenseman Vince Dunn were involved in a bit of an altercation during the team’s matchup last night and it’s an altercation that will cost the pair thousands of dollars and perhaps some playing time.

First, here’s the sequence of events. While coming out of the corner, Khaira tries to cut between Dunn and the Blues goal, to which Dunn takes exception to and throws a high cross check on Khaira. Khaira then comes back HARD with a vicious cross check on Dunn, taking him down to the ice:

Well… it didn’t take long, but NHL Player Safety has come down with a ruling, at least for Dunn’s involvement. The 22 year old blue liner has been handed a $1,942.20 fine, the maximum allowable for his cross check on Khaira.



As for Khaira, he’ll have to wait to discover his fate as he’ll have a hearing with Player Safety later today:



Just by virtue of having a hearing, it's likely that Khaira will face a stiffer penalty than Dunn. Whether or not this ends up being a fine or a suspension though, is anyone's guess. Trying to make sense of the NHL Department of Player Safety's decisions these days is a fool's errand...
