Breaking: Kings place one of their top young stars on injured reserve.

The Los Angeles Kings have been dealt a tough blow at the worst possible time.

The team officially placed forward Tyler Toffoli on injured reserve Wednesday, indicating that he would continue to miss games after having previously missed two contests with what the Kings have termed a lower-body injury.

It's a huge loss for the Kings, Toffoli is the team's second leading scorer behind only forward Jeff Carter and the Kings are currently in a tough battle for a Wildcard spot with a number of teams only a game away from tying things up.

No word on how long he might be out.
