Breaking: Leafs make a move in goal, Sparks out?

There are a LOT of Leafs fans who will not like this decision.

This just in, the Toronto Maple Leafs have re-signed veteran goaltender Michael Hutchinson to a one year, one-way contract worth $700,000.

 Check it out:

Because of the nature of the deal, with it being a one way pact, this likely spells the end of Garret Spark’s run for the Leafs. Sparks is signed for next season at a cap hit of $750,000 but it’s been rumoured for awhile now that general manager Kyle Dubas is actively shopping Sparks on the trade market.

The 25 year old Sparks struggled when called upon by the Leafs this season, putting up a dreadful 3.15 goals against average and sub-par .902 save percentage in 20 games. By comparison, Hutchinson put up a 2.64 goals against average and .914 save percentage, albeit in a small sample size of just five games.

Regardless, the fact that Dubas and the Leafs’ management has elected to retain Hutchinson speaks volumes about Sparks’ future in the organization. Bye, bye Garret.
