Buffalo Sabres defenseman Marco Scandella will have to pay up.
The defender has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for slashing Pittsburgh Penguins forward Patric Hornqvist.
The incident took place in the second period of the 5-4 overtime victory of the Pens, on Tuesday night.
Scandella was sent to the penalty box for two minutes after his gesture. Hornqvist joined him, however, as he was called for interference.
